Her eyes popped open as the bright sunlight flooded into her bedroom through the slats in the thin blind. She’d managed to sleep late, but that didn’t stop her from being wide awake at six-thirty in the morning. A glance at her alarm clock revealed that she had an entire day ahead of her. She flung her legs over the side of the bed and stood up. This would be her last day of summer vacation before starting school again in September. And it was going to be one of the best summers of her life. She smiled, imagining what tomorrow would bring. No more sitting in a dark classroom with textbooks and pens, listening to boring old lectures on how much energy was needed to live a healthy life or how different food choices could affect you in different ways.
